Abhisit Vejjajiva, the Thai prime minister, says he will not resign, despite a rally by tens of thousands of anti-government protesters.

Wearing red shirts, the large crowd marched through the capital on Wednesday, taking over main roads and waving pictures of Thaksin Shinawatra, their leader-in-exile who was ousted by a 2006 coup after six years as prime minister.

Police said about 60,000 protesters chanting “Bring Thaksin back, Abhisit get out!” gathered outside the prime minister’s office, joining demonstrators who have been staging a sit-in there for the past two weeks.

Protest organisers put the number of marchers above 300,000. >>>
