Pakistani officials object to US drone attacks inside their borders, calling the strikes “counterproductive” for the war on terror.

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani expressed their anger over the attacks to visiting CIA Director Leon Panetta in separate meetings in Islamabad, local media reported Sunday.

The premier said that Pakistan wants peaceful relations with all its neighbors and is committed to playing its role in fighting terror but added that drone attacks were creating problems.

The Pakistani government has been expressing worry about future attacks since The New York Times reported in the past week that US officials are extending its missile strikes into Baluchistan province.

Islamabad has repeatedly protested the strikes, saying they threaten the country’s sovereignty and fuel public anger.
